Abstract: Archaeologists with Argonne National Laboratory assist federal agencies, particularly the United States Air Force (USAF), with a variety of projects relating to management and protection of cultural resources under water and on land. From training workshops for overseas installations to archaeological surveys in the Southeastern United States to underwater archaeology research in Alaska to living shoreline construction in Florida, the range of projects is diverse and exciting. This presentation will describe select projects the presenter has worked on over the past three years, particularly those with a maritime focus. In addition, key avenues of potential future research in underwater archaeology will be briefly discussed, such as the integration of machine learning with analysis of geophysical survey data and the benefits of shoreline restoration for protecting archaeological sites from the impacts of climate change.
